The Legal Records Division is responsible for legal documents which are filed as public record. Documents are maintained from 1792 to present. Automated document indexes are available for most document types back to 1960 with few exceptions. Encumbrances are available back to 1955, Plats are available back to 1958 and Marriage Licenses are available back to 1897. Document images are available online for all instrument filings from May, 1995 to current, with additional back images for various document types back to 1980. (see What’s Available)

Real estate records found in the database include: deeds, name changes, mechanics liens, mortgages, powers of attorney, wills, corporations, tax liens, military discharges, trademarks, charitable gaming registrations, assignments, releases, marriages, and delinquent property taxes. Security Agreement (uniform commercial code and title lien statements) and related document indexes are available online. Images for these documents are currently not available. Filing fees and document particulars for the most frequently filed documents are available online.

Access to eCCLIX record indexes and document images is available for viewing from this web site. An account and password must be assigned to you by the Shelby County Clerk’s office. Special software must be loaded to your computer system to enable viewing of document images. Access fees are charged for utilizing the data and images.
